  • MBT MASTIC-200 is a bitumen based mastic compound of acid resisting grade, which is used as an underlay for acid proof bricks/tiles or stones as it acts as an impervious membrane. The membrane is the last line of defence, which protects the sub-floor and its structural supports from corrosive attack, confirming to IS:9510:1980.
  • No brick/tile floor, no matter how will constructed or made from whatever material, can withstand forever without experiencing seepage caused due to breakage or cracks.
  • Good construction with good materials will hold this seepage to a minimum, but it is inevitable that some seepage will occur. Hence, it is the job of the mastic membrane to prevent this seepage from reaching the sub-floors. Hence, the membrane must be corrosion resistant, continuous, impervious and elastic enough to absorb shocks and it should be thick enough to prevent acids, alkalies and further penetration.
  • The membrane also works as a linking layer for ceramic tiles/bricks & mortar while increasing the adhesive property.
  • MBT MASTIC 200 is available in powder form as well as cake form.

Superior Temperature Resistance

MBT MASTIC 200 remains stable and maintains its excellent bonding properties at elevations as high as 1350C. This makes it especially suitable for environments experiencing extreme thermal cycles, providing reliable sealing and structural integrity in high-temperature processes like those found in steel manufacturing or furnace operations.

High Adhesion and Versatile Application

Formulated to deliver strong adhesion to both brick and metal surfaces, MBT MASTIC 200 is compatible with fireclay, silica, and high alumina refractories. Its easy-to-apply, ready-to-use paste consistency ensures a smooth finish, making it ideal for setting, pointing, and sealing of various refractory assemblies.

Reliable and Safe to Use

Manufactured according to IS 4832 (Part II), MBT MASTIC 200 guarantees proven quality and compositional purity exceeding 95%. Its bituminous base, combined with select additives and inert fillers, delivers strong performance with low water absorption and a semi-hard finish after curing. Proper storage ensures a 6-month shelf life.

FAQ's of MBT MASTIC 200:

Q: How should MBT MASTIC 200 be applied during refractory brick installation?

A: To apply MBT MASTIC 200, ensure surfaces are clean and free from loose particles. Use a trowel or spatula to spread the paste uniformly over the brick or metal surface, then position the refractory brick as required. The mastic is ready to use from the pail or drum, facilitating direct application without additional mixing.

Q: What are the primary benefits of using MBT MASTIC 200 in high-temperature environments?

A: MBT MASTIC 200 offers outstanding bonding strength and dimensional stability at temperatures up to 1350C. Its resistance to thermal shocks, gases, slag, and molten metals ensures long-lasting seals and structural integrity, making it ideal for furnaces, boilers, and steel plants.

Q: When is MBT MASTIC 200 fully cured and ready for exposure to operational temperatures?

A: The initial set occurs within 1-2 hours after application, while full curing is achieved in 24 hours. It is recommended to await full cure before exposing the structure to high operational temperatures, ensuring maximum adhesion and durability.

Q: Where is MBT MASTIC 200 typically used?

A: MBT MASTIC 200 finds use primarily in the construction and maintenance of steel plants, boilers, industrial furnaces, and other installations that demand reliable refractory performance under high thermal stress.

Q: What storage conditions are recommended for maintaining product quality?

A: Store MBT MASTIC 200 in a cool, dry place and keep containers tightly sealed when not in use. Proper storage maintains its effectiveness, ensuring a shelf life of up to 6 months in unopened condition.

Q: How does MBT MASTIC 200 enhance the sealing and protection of refractory assemblies?

A: The product's low porosity, controlled thermal conductivity, and high adhesion properties ensure robust sealing against heat, gases, and molten materials. This not only enhances thermal insulation but also extends the lifespan of refractory installations.
